Thanks for your quilt tips. Consider these
(and keep those tips
coming!):
I have resorted to do lap quilting. I start in the middle
of the patch, leaving 'half' of the thread. When I come to the end of
the patch, I then thread the needle to the other 'half'. For me, this
method serves to keep the batting from shifting. I have 18 quilts, 5
wall hangings, and 4 baby quilts to my credit. These are my legacy to
my family.

"I use chalk to mark my quilts! You can brush it
right off when your done and you can also see it on all fabrics!"

"I am a machine quilter. When
I want to quilt by the whole quilt method using a top that has an all-over
print pattern such as a tie dyed fabric or any other that would be hard
to see the traced quilt pattern, I trace my pattern on the lining.
I then set up my machine as if the lining is the top and the quilt top
is the lining."

"I have a problem of marking a pattern
dark enough to see well and then it leaving marks that will not come
out. I solved this by copying the whole pattern on tear-away Stablizer
and then pinning paper to pattern. It takes a while to tear it all off
but it is easier for me and works well with my quilting machine."

" To avoid having to stop and thread
needles every time I finish with a strand of thread I thread an entire
packet of needles onto the thread, leaving the thread attached to the
spool. This way, whenever I need a new strand of thread I simply pick
the last one up and pull the thread through the entire packet of needles.
I haven't noticed any excess thread abrasion from this method."
